Boy and Girl Elves 44x56 2010

44"x56" Puzzle Interchange technique, fabric, thread, acrylic paint, machine appliqué, machine quilted

“Boy and Girl Elves” is one of my series of “The Quilted Portrait” or “puzzle interchange machine appliqué” quilts.  I designed the elves so that one pattern is a boy elf with a star and the other one is a girl elf with a moon. This piece would look great in a children’s room or on a hospital wall.  The materials and techniques are machine appliquéd fabric, thread and paint.  I chose soothing soft fabric colors and lots of varied colored thread.  The satin stitch of the machine appliqué gives another dimension of color and texture to the surface along with playful, loose threads dancing across the quilt.
