The Spirit Of The Dream

The Spirit Of The Dream

I made this quilt for the exhibit, “Comments on 20th Century America” at the Connell Gallery in Atlanta.  My idea was about freedom and I was inspired by the speech of Martin Luther King.  I was thinking about how it would be if all people had the freedom to be naked in space and to ride on the backs of huge birds and to just be free to float around.  I painted King’s words around the edge of the piece, “The Spirit of the Dream is the Unity of Humankind”

The materials and techniques are machine appliquéd fabric, acrylic paint, fabric paint, hand made rubber stamps with acrylic paint and braid around the outside edge.
